My solo career is something that has only recently begun. I love playing in bands but when Mayte, my wife, gifted me the studio time to bring out my first solo work, I knew it was time to find my own voice in "The Present" .
It was at times a tough experience, very different to recording with bands and the process of composing such personal songs as we recorded was at times overwhelming, but my producer, Javier Shakara, helped turn it into what I consider, the main musical achievement of my life.
I formed The Capris in 2009 which was a magical year in which we brought out the first record, "I Don't Want to be Your B-Side" which we followed up with the EP, Drive (2013). Also, this year we'll be back in the studio beginning work on a new album.
I sometimes feel that The Capris isn't so much a band as a way of life. We've played so many great venues with so many creative musicians!
I'm very lucky to be surrounded by people who care passionately about the songs I write for this project and I wouldn't give up our Fridays in the studio for all the world!
What can I tell you about Easy! ?
What a record! At the time I remember that it felt like my life's work. Those songs, those hours in the studio getting it just right.
Pepe Marchante (producer and guitarist) brought out perhaps the best in me with his painstaking attention to detail and the record is a monument to his belief in my creativity.
I can't remember a project that has taught me more as a musician.
